Marine Corps League - New River Valley

Detachment #1190

Research shows that 22 veterans take their own lives every day, and Buddy Check 22 started as a grass roots movement aimed at preventing veteran suicides. The goal of Buddy Check 22 is to have veterans throughout the country call each other on the 22nd of the month to check in and ensure that they are doing okay.

Marine Corps League Detachment #1190 took this idea a step further by hosting a social event on the 22nd of each month at Macado’s in Radford. From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. the patio at Macado’s becomes a place where veterans can gather together, share good cheer and camaraderie, and raise awareness about veteran suicide prevention. The goal is that, over time, veterans will make strong connections with each other and build healthy relationships. Then, if veterans ever find themselves in need, they will know that there are others who understand their struggle and hopefully they will call them for help.

Macado’s has been a fantastic sponsor and partner for this event and veteran suicide prevention. Macado’s in Radford offers a 50% discount on food to all veterans and their guests who attend the Buddy Check 22. We encourage all veterans to come out on the 22nd and meet us on the patio at Macado’s.

If you are a veteran who has considered suicide or you know a veteran who has, please visit the Veterans Crisis Line web page or call them at 1-800-273-8255.

Every veteran deserves to know that we care about them.
