Research shows that 22 veterans take their own lives every day. Buddy Check 22 is a national program aimed at preventing veteran suicides. The program does this by having veterans gather together or call each other on the 22nd of the month to check in and ensure that they are doing okay.
Marine Corps League Detachment #1190 supports this program by hosting a social event on the 22nd of each month where veterans can gather together, have a good time, and build healthy relationships. The ultimate goal is that, in a time of need, a veteran will know that there is someone who understands his/her struggle and will hopefully call someone for help.
If you are a veteran who has considered suicide or you know a veteran who has, please visit the Veterans Crisis Line web page or call them at 1-800-273-8255.
Every veteran deserves to know that we care about them.
